Design of a Herringbone-Grooved Bearing for Application in an Electrically Driven Air Compressor

A turbo compressor was investigated to ensure the operational reliability of charging fuel cell systems. This study air-lubricated herringbone bearings support high-speed rotating shaft. For reliable operation rotor bearing system, stable in whole speed range (up 120 krpm), as well low lift-off speed, is an important issue. Some publications containing guidelines for optimized design terms stability and behavior date back 1970s, with some simplifying assumptions (such narrow groove theory small eccentricity analysis). Many have addressed calculations, optimization herringbone-grooved bearings; however, general are still missing view authors. Although investigations related a lightweight special unit, this could also indicate favorable designs other applications. Here, compressible Reynolds equation solved solution domain using conservative finite difference scheme, corresponding characteristics were determined. In perturbation analysis, linearized dynamic coefficients calculated. To compare suitability performance various designs, especially at high simple model Jeffcott airborne two identical journal (HGJBs) used. The geometrical parameters HGJBs varied, their effects on evaluated. Recommendations concerning sufficiently threshold reasonable result parameter study.
